Introduction To Bag Design & Construction is the introductory workshop that teaches students the fundamental processes behind the creation of basic bags. It teaches students the fundamentals of paper mock-up, pattern- making and actual bag-making. The six sessions will be divided into four (4) main bag projects – Tote, Hobo, Saddle and Bucket. To conclude the workshop, the instructor will deliver a lecture and guide students in exercises on bag costing.

Course Structure: This is a face-to-face, hands-on workshop where students are given the opportunity to work side-by-side with an instructor, who in turn, can provide feedback on every student’s output.

  • Session 2: Project 1: Tote Bag | Output: Tote Bag - completed or work-in-progress (WIP)

  • Session 3: Project 2: Hobo Bag | Output: paper mock-up, patterns, cut materials finished Project 1 to present

  • Session 4: Project 3: Saddle Bag | Output: paper mock-up, patterns, cut materials: finished Project 2 to present

  • Session 5: Project 4: Bucket Bag | Output: paper mock-up, patterns, cut materials: finished Project 3 to present

  • Session 6: Costing exercises

Certificate of Attendance will be given to each student who has successfully completed the program.

Non-Refundable & Non-Transferable. Please be informed that once the Workshop has started payment for the program will be non-refundable and non-transferable.

Name Registration. In order to properly enroll to the Workshop the name to be registered should be the name of the student.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

The materials students would be needing for the first session are the following:

  • cartolina - about 6 pcs for the whole course
  • cutting mat - 600 x 450 mm
  • box cutter - any size
  • steel ruler - preferably 24"
  • scotch or masking tape - 1/2" wide
  • measuring tape
  • pencil, eraser, scissors

For the bag-making proper (doesn't have to be all, students can choose among the main materials):

  • canvas, linen or other thick fabric
  • synthetic leather
  • genuine leather
  • needle, thread, sewing machine (optional)
  • adhesive (Rugby)
  • cotton or nylon webbing strap
  • metal accessories (to be discussed and optional)
  • leather hole punchers (optional)
